Outrun the Blues!

The sighs the groans and the moans!!

A Typical Monday morning at home!

We drag ourselves out of our warm comforting bed, ready to face the bad world of schools, teachers, mean “friends”, grouchy bosses, sour colleagues and loongg faces!!

The grey skies add woe to the already woeful day!

The kids go through the motions of getting ready, stare at themselves in the mirror as they brush, dress, find the simple act of wearing shoes fascinating enough to want to spend more time at it!!

Then comes the rush, rush, rush!!
Hair is pulled back into the customary plaits, badges on, ties on.

Its slow motion again as I now rush to get ready!!
Away from the glare and yelling of mommy, they savor each bit of cereal, taste and chew and seem to enjoy the breakfast time banter!!

Having delayed enough, I now open my cupboard, in my mind I know what the color is not going to be!
Not BLUE!!!
So I rummage for my brightest dress- and Orange wins!!
Pull out another pile to match the bottom and yell on my way to the bathroom to the kids that its late.. late.. late!!

This is what I am reminded of every time we do the morning race to outrun our blues!

Ready in a jiffy, I now throw jackets and sweaters onto the bed and now scream at the kids to come get them!!

In between all this, my cellphone gets shoved into my handbag, the lunch box into my bag, my usual two slices of bread gets its random attention.

And  finally we are all ready!!

We carry our load, bid loud goodbyes and trudge down the stairs, with no time to wait for the lift!!

The walk to school seems much longer on Mondays!!

And everywhere I turn I see blue!!!

The kids in their blue jackets and sweater, my mom in her blue nightdress, the blue of the uniform of the neighboring school kids, the lone old man walking in his blue shirt,
The girl in her electric blue scooty, the blue of the car passing by!!!

I tell myself that I am armed to face the day in my brightest of brightest and look for “the sign” to know it will be a beautiful day!! A green car- Not so common, but made common with the Chevy introducing its green cocktail Beat!

We waive goodbye at the school gates and I carry on!!
Oh no, my auto wallah for the day, seems to have a blue streak today!! Such sad songs!!!!

Did you know:
The `blues' referred to in the idiom has nothing to do with the colour. According to some scholars, it refers to the type of music made popular by African Americans. The `blues music' deals with rather sad themes, and as a result leaves the listener feeling sad. This is the reason why the expressions `to have the blues' and `feeling blue' mean feeling sad or depressed.

I never did find the sign I was searching for though I did find a lot of blues and greys and blacks!!

I reach work, being the first one to enter office on Monday which is no indication of enthusiasm!!

Ah I see one, the only other employee entering the gate, at such a crazy time in the morning has a green car!!

Maybe it will be a good day after all!
