Bagful of Surprise

I have often been asked what do you lug around in your huge bag?

I carry a Fastrack Slingbag to work everyday and I do not know what its contents are!!

For those who know me, just like my affinity for shoes, I love bags!

Many summers ago, I got my first gift – a green and brown leather bag.

It was delivered with love from my boyfriend through  a girlfriend visiting Delhi from Bombay.

Loved it!

It was smart, elegant and everything that looked cool for a working woman.

Therein started my relationship with bags!

I shopped whenever I could.

I matched my bag with my clothes and shoes.

I had bags of different sizes, colours and material!

I loved bags!!!!

Was never one to hesitate to transfer contents from one to another every time I coordinated it with my footwear and clothes!

I had a cupboard full of them!!!

And then the move to another country and luggage restrictions.

It was heart wrenching to leave them all behind.

And that is what I did!

I lovingly wrapped up the ones I cherished most in newspaper and protected them from bugs and mites.

Packed them in carton boxes and left them in the dark.

I did buy a few more when I landed in the land of plenty.

Prettier ones.

Along with babies, everything became XL!

My girth increased and so did my bags’

I needed every bag of mine to accommodate emergency stuff.

In addition to the erstwhile diaper bag I lugged around!

I anxiously opened my box of bags on my return home.

I loved the feel, had forgotten how they looked.

I was in bag heaven again.

I continued scouting for that elusive colour, the unique shape, the trendy material!

I could color coordinate once more!!!

And I did! And got addicted to Kipling! What joy they gave me! I fell in love with the little monkeys!

Till I moved on!

It can hold anything in it, even pieces of my broken heart!

Mp3 player, Cheque book, A big brown hair clip

ATM cash withdrawal receipt

A lipstick, chap stick, kajal, small perfume and comb in a pouch

A pouch filled with emergency medicines- for cold, tummy trouble, fever and band-aid! And some Cough lozenges!
