This is where I belong

We live in a world where everyone you meet is a traveler.

When I meet potential hires, I ask them causally about their interests outside of work.

10 years ago, the same question got me standard answers which included reading and listening to music.

Today the list has extended to include travel.

And the same interest is what prompted me to wonder about where I should wander.

Pooja holidays are mine! To spend on my own, doing the things I like to do.

Yes I do feel guilty at times since I end up having more fun than my kids who “have to” travel to see their paternal side of the family and my parents who decide to lead a simplistic life of prayer during that week.

This year too brought with it a lot of planning. I wanted to fulfill a lifelong dream of traveling across Madhya Pradesh.

So the planning began. A few friends were spoken to.

Yet, things never happen the way you want them to.

And that is how a yellow submarine ride came about!

A chance google hit -on an expedition to the North East parts of India.

The dates seemed almost right, the pricing just about.

It was a last minute booking, mad rush to get tickets.

And there were a few glitches too which almost made me cancel, like the death of a grand-mom the wee hours of the morning I was to travel, a cyclone predicted to hit the state my kids were spending their holidays at.

Yet I did what I had to do-leave for the airport.

The flight journey was insipid, just like the food they served on board the plane.

The city was hot and I was tired.

The next morning, anticipation of the unknown got me excited and anxious.

With no idea what to expect or whom to expect I started my vacation.

Scenic hill side, cloud covered roads, smiling faces, lazy cattle, wonderful company, surprise detours all made the trip a memorable ride.

The write up will be detailed covering the small villages we crossed, each having a story to tell.

Memories to cherish.

And places you want to go back to.

Bryan Adams says it best

“This is where I belong”

I hear the wind across the plain
A sound so strong - that calls my name
It's wild like the river - it's warm like the sun
Ya it's here - this is where I belong

Under the starry skies - where eagles have flown
This place is paradise - it's the place I call home
The moon on the mountains
The whisper through the trees
The waves on the water
Let nothing come between this and me

Cuz everything I want - is everything that's here
And when when we're all together - there's nothing to fear
And wherever I wander - the one thing I've learned
It's to here - I will always....always return
