The brain is like a Swiss Army knife-
There are so many things the brain can do, logically compartmentalized
to handle complexities.
Yet, even with such an efficient in-built device, I need my
lists!
And I make lists everywhere I go, on my phone, bits of paper
and yes in my mind too- to be
transferred to phone or paper soon.
At work, I open my desk, take my book out- get ready for the
day.
Make my “to do” list for the day. New ones, old ones, just
remembered ones too!
Then I remember- I had some notes jotted down the
previous night on my phone.
Look it up, included.
Now the list seems long and needs prioritizing, I quickly
make a fresh one!
Start the day’s work.
Cross out some of the tasks and include new ones which have
come up.
Looks too messy, create a new list with fresh priorities.
Back to work after lunch.
A good day indeed. When your paper has been scored through
so many times!
As I leave a new “to do” list for home based activities is getting
created mentally.
Get my trusty gadget out and jot down the all important
tasks.
There have been moments, when I have been on the phone, with
no easy access to pen and paper.
I could not wait to get off the call to make a note of the
points that were flashing in my mind during my conversation!
Back home, more scores and notes- Satisfaction.
Late night, almost in bed, lights off, but the brain refuses
to power down, there are lists forming…..
Back on the phone, yet another “to do” list.
Next day- repeat all of the above.
My “to do” list is a constant reminder of tasks, not necessarily
a wholesome planning tool!
But in the words of Winston Churchill: "He who fails to
plan is planning to fail”
“ Getting Things Done” by David Allen- is a good read to
know how breaking down complexities is the first step towards better planning
and execution.
Remember-
Control and perspective are essential even with a Swiss Army
knife!!
