The essence of Tuticorin

Tuticorin after 13 years or more!!

The place where I was born,
A chance visit by a cousin in March for a family function prompted us to visit Tuticorin in April.
Its hot, humid and essentially a hot summer there!
We decided to brave the heat and do the quick trip over the tamil new year weekend!!

Lot of misgivings about the long drive, the kids weak stomach, the heat, the “not so clean” streets and everything else we did not think about.

The journey – not so bad, hot yes, but not that we could not tolerate it, being born and having lived in the state for so many years- your roots surface during adverse situationsJ

Visiting relatives, family, friends, seeing the narrow lanes of Tuticorin, the stores visited as kids, the streets walked to visit relatives, the houses which reminded me of how it was being a kid!

The housewarming function was the reason we went and it was my best family get together in many years!
Met so many of my relatives, an old “local guardian” who just happened to stay down the road from my college where I used to run to when I wanted good food and family.
Cousins of cousins and sisters of friends and mom;s cousins and more!!
It was a treat to someone cut off from the rest of the family living and working and never visiting any such gathering!!

The kids enjoyed the attention, the newness of the place, the people and the space!!
The beach trip was pleasant, the views were beautiful, the food was heavenly.

What more could someone want from memories!!

I had a dream......

A little mud hut by the stream

and how pretty it was!

Mud cottage at Chettimane, Coorg, far away from cellphone connectivity! Bliss! You don’t worry about your cell phone battery dying out here
You don't worry about what to eat, you don’t worry about what to do, you don’t worry about the time, you don’t worry about rushing somewhere to get done with a checklist of things to see, you don’t worry about the beds being made, you don’t worry!
'Cos someone does it all for you.

The drive and hair pin bends are not for the weak of stomach , but the views are beautiful, a little more distance and you could see the Talacauvery.
The mud cottage stands by itself away from the main house and it’s a treat!
You don’t have to budge, you relax in a hammock in luxury!
They know how to treat you like a queen!
The dining area has the best views!
Green green fields, cows grazing, birds waiting, stillness!
The room has glass windows to let the nature into your room!
Windows which are the Full length and breadth of the wall!
You roll up the blinds and it feels like you are outside.

As usual, it’s the night time that matters!
We went searching for stars in the skies! We did not have to look hard!! There were millions of them!
Suddenly, we thought we saw shooting stars, am a sucker for them! There were too many of them at too low a level to be star dust!!
They were shooting stars of a different kind! Fireflies and how they lit up the night!!

We enjoyed the stillness of the night, no dogs barking to keep you awake, no cows mooing to make you wonder, Silence!
The fireflies continued their dance till we closed our eyes and drifted away to another starry land!

Morning, sun rise over the hills, the birds chirping to wake you up, the views from your bed, the dew drops, the mist cover over the hills, the cows slowly moving towards the field, the farmer starting his daily chores, the cock crowing!!
Dreams sometimes do come true!
