What do you do when you don’t know what to do!!
Do nothing!!!
That is what we did when we decided to Linger!
A place where doing nothing comes easy, being lazy is
acceptable and good food is a way of life, even a nightly visit by a grizzly is
nothing out of the ordinary.
Less than 2 hours
away from Bangalore, at Vishaal farms, near DD hills is located a small
hideaway called Camp Linger!
Filled with fruit trees, fresh vegetable patches and tilled
land as far as the eyes can see!
Surrounded by hills, a trekker’s heaven, I had just the
slightest guilt that I did not stretch my legs even a bit. The place is enchantment!!
About 5 tents ready for occupancy! Clean, compact and cool!
The hosts are local folks, gentle, helpful, kind and great
cooks!! Food is plenty and never stops!
The bottling and pickling of gherkins was a pleasant
surprise! The things you learn in the
most improbable places!
The kids had fun eating cherry tomatoes plucked off the
vine, seeing an orange tree for the first time ever and mangoes and chikkus
which were falling off the trees!!
Sundown brought with it a different story! A mystery!
Stars! Never knew there were so many stars, they each had
their story to tell, connect the dots is a lesson we learn and never get bored
of staring at them on a clear moonless night!
Fire! Bonfires are therapeutic and the fire seems to
cleanse. The twigs were constantly fed and stories of bears kept us going till
we ran out of them!
Insects!! You not
just hear them, you see them! Flitting, twitting or wonder what noise they
make! You are never alone!!!
Bears! It was hop into the tent , zip up and stay quiet!!
The forewarning about bears had us wonder and worry about what could and could
not!
The quiet of the night, I hear growling and mad running,
was it in my head or was it all for real!
Too scared to take a
peek, I lay quiet hoping it was a dream!
Felt a thump, felt a scratch, felt a rustle and heard a
crash! At one point I thought the tent had collapsed on me!! Dogs barked loud and hard and I knew that it
was no friend!!
“Mama, what’s that noise? “ False bravado I reply,
“Just a cow grazing, go to sleep”
“ Mama, what’s that noise?” again, I whisper,” ssshhh,
sleep, must be the dogs, the tents are zipped, they cannot come in”
Fear it helps you think quick!!
I welcomed the dawn, so calm, so safe!! So bright so clean!
A weekend well spent, good food, friends, simple pleasures
in life!!
Linger awhile! Cos’doing nothing never felt so good!!!
